DOCUMENT DESCRIPTION
These are the memoirs of colorful Justice Stephen Field. The reminiscences, which were printed for a few friends, include his years in California, his life in the legislature, "the annoyances of his judicial life" and various appendices. At the end of the document is another story, written by George C. Gorham, about the assassination attempt on his life by a former associate on the bench.
