Love it Tavis! I have got to get Dr. Stiglitz' newest text on inequality. His points on education and poverty made me yell 'Amen'! I was a 3.5 high school student who won lots of local one-time scholarships and a scholarship from a private college to study economics and business-- that got me INTO the college, only to see costs skyrocket the next year. So, I sought out and earned a $10k scholarship to replace those $8k in local scholarships. By my fourth year, after costs continuing to increase, I was short by about $1400 (at an institution that charged over $40k/year) and could not return. Some years later, I have fnally completed my fourth year, but b/c of the degree requirement changes since I left, I need one last semester. I planned to finish at community college, no can do, I have too many credits (109) to qualify for financial aid b/c they award associate degrees (even though I just want to transfer those credits to my home school). If my family was not living in poverty, if we had some form of wealth, I could pay the mere $2k for another 12 credits then finish my senior class for $5k. I just feel stuck to be all this way and be stopped again b/c of money. Education helps but seems to still only be for those who can afford it---especially those unpaid internships I would have loved to take, but needed to earn funds instead for the next semester. I agree with Dr. Stiglitz, our economy will have to change and our nation will have to change it's view of 'improvement', growth was the previous idea, but we are done 'growing', instead we have to improve what we have, ex: just about every location where it is economically feasible and profitable to have such-and-such fast food restaurant or retail store has one, there really isn't too many other areas where we can 'grow' our businesses and see a profit. Americans are going back to enjoying the 'homemade' things in life, Americans are finding jobs in the 'homemade' products and crafts again (new small businesses) (the cultural products that Dr. Stiglits speaks of)--I believe that the everyday person has already accepted and is changing with the economy, but that a portion of our government is still resisting this Change and therefore is attempting to block our economy from 'functioning' again (production will not increase in many areas, we all have microwaves now, you can stop producing them at the old rate, produce only for replacement, we have to increase education to improve technology). I will stop my rant there, lol. But thanks Tavis, really enjoyed the thought provoking questions that I have been waiting for someone to ask and someone to answer:)

interesting interview with Ayad Akhtar. This Tavis was making a good job. Akhtar's book is being released right now here in Sweden, and as a teacher I found the interview very interesting to refer to to the students. Thanks a lot!
Best regards

Thank you Tavis for interviewing a magnificent author. I have won the approval of my Book Club and I will be reviewing "Lots of Candles, Plenty of Cake" in August.
Do you have a guide for reviewing the book? Let me know.
With sincere appreciation.

I respect Larry flynt and his views. Sex is not such a secret anymore.we all have rights and morals. We just have to go about it with other people in mind. Children especially. Lets teach them love can be beautiful but not to degrade because there are far worse things that are happening now.

It was an excellent interview. Stageplay (Thurgood Marshall) hasn't been to Detroit as yet. Hopefully, in the near future.
