With the weight of the GOP behind former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, on August 11, 2012, the Republican Party’s presumptive nominee selected Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan as his running mate for the 2012 election.

President Obama continues to work to rebuild his popularity among voters who are concerned about the direction of the country under his leadership—from unemployment, to the debt ceiling stand-off, to foreign wars, healthcare and the economy. He struggles to restore his popularity and gain momentum heading into the general election.

Republican underdog candidate Ron Paul still hopes to steer the GOP platform in the direction of his philosophy and intends to have an impact at the Republican National Convention. In May 2012, he announced that he would not compete in future presidential primaries, but will still compete for delegates in states primary elections were already held.
