Dick Van Dyke, I Salute You!

May 26th, 2011, byJeremy Freed

Someone who’s spent five decades in show business has had plenty of chances to endear himself to the public in a variety of situations. Especially when he’s as multi-talented as recent guest Dick Van Dyke. Depending on when you were born (and your tastes) you may have caught him in The Dick Van Dyke Show, Diagnosis: Murder or playing himself in the classic Scooby-Doo Meets Dick Van Dyke, animated film.

I, however, will always remember Dick Van Dyke for his legendary turn in the 1964 classic, Mary Poppins, in which he played Bert, a friend to Poppins, entertainer of children and sometimes chim-en-ey sweep. If you’re already a fan, you won’t be able to resist the clip below. And if you’re not familiar with Van Dyke’s work, this is as good a place to start as any.
