In reply to Alan Henderson, the monk interviewed is a Buddhist monk with the religious order Nipponzan Myohoji. His name is Rev. Tenzin Shugei. He was drafted into the Japanese Imperial Army and was to be one of the youth to fly a kamikaze mission. The war ended before that happened, sparing his life. After the war when the Japanese Constitution was first drafted with Article 9, the article declaring that Japan would not create a standing army, he opposed that article. He is now fully in support of Article 9 and a devoted advocate of nonviolence. I know this because I, too, am a member of Nipponzan Myohoji and know Rev. Shugei.

I have seen the documentary and I was hoping I could get the name of the gentleman shown leading the march. I believe he was a Shinto priest that was at one point ultimately saved from his duty as a kamikaze pilot by the end of the war. This was late and I was tired but I believe he originally despised the idea of the self defense force. Now he is this major voice in support of it. I suggest that really says something. Ultimately, can someone confirm my comprehension and provide me with his name. I have a military history geek who would really like to follow the story but cannot find anything on it.

I can't wait to see the documentary online. I do not possess a TV so I rely on streaming WideAngle.
Looking forward to it!
