Born in Kashmir, Subhash Kak is professor of computer engineering at Louisiana State University as well as a poet and Vedic scholar. He is the author of several books on Indian civilization. One of these (co-authored with George Feurstein and David Frawley) is "In Search of the Cradle of Civilization," which argues against the view that advanced civilization came to India from elsewhere.
In an earlier book, "India at Century's End: Essays on History and Politics," Kak suggests that the modern Indian state ought to reject ideas of itself developed by Europeans, and to revise its system of government to include ideas native to India's own ancient culture. Kak's newer books include "The Wishing Tree: The Presence and Promise of India," a collection of his lectures at Stanford University and University of California at Berkeley, and the "Asvamedha," which presents a new understanding of Vedic religion.
