NWFP map This mountainous province was a British contrivance and established in 1901. The Hindu Kush mountain range can be found in the north of the province, where it borders Afghanistan; the Northern Areas, the territories still disputed with India, are to the northeast; Punjab is to the east, and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas are directly west and south. The most populated areas can be found near the provincial capital, Peshawar.
