FATA map Given its parched landscape, which makes farming difficult, the FATA counts on the NWFP as well as the rest of the country to augment its food supply. Its economy is also dependent on animal husbandry. The Tribal Areas' status outside the bounds of the laws of Pakistan has made it a haven for poppy cultivation and opium and heroin production.
