World Links: European Economy Contracts By 4 Percent, Chinese Officials Ordered to Smoke, Nepalese Prime Minister Resigns

The European economy is expected to contract by 4 percent this year, which is twice as much as previously expected.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal of Nepal announces his resignation in response to President Ram Baran Yadav’s veto of the government’s decision to dismiss the army chief.

Militants use 2,000 civilians as human shields in Buner’s Pir Baba area in Pakistan. Ten militants and three soldiers are killed in the sixth day of fighting in Buner.

Mexico sends a plane to pick up Mexicans quarantined in China.  China sends a plane to pick up Chinese citizens in Mexico.

China orders officials to smoke cigarettes to increase local tax revenues.
