Adze, Bowl

A gougelike adze that has been shaped into a curve along its length and breadth to enable it to reach in and chop hollows, as when
you are making wooden bowls or scoop shovels. Bowl adzes are usually locally made and are often adapted from straight-bitted adzes. Gutter adzes are similarly shaped, two-handled versions of gouge-shaped adzes, used for hollowing long wooden rain gutters. A gutter adze will hollow a long rounded trough, but it lacks the longitudinal curvature to smoothly cut the sloping ends of a bowl.`x
