Projects of the Week #409c
Install Pedestal Sink & Faucet
Below are directions for the sink we installed - follow manufacturer's directions for the sink you are installing.
What You Need:
- Sink
- Trap & drain assembly
- Level
- Pencil
- Drill & bits
- Tongue & groove pliers
(If replacing an existing sink - shut off water supply before removing old lavatory.)
- Provide suitable reinforcement behind finished wall for lavatory anchor screws (see above for directions). *Determine horizontal centerline location of support from fixture.
- Place lavatory and pedestal into installed position. Level and square the lavatory and pedestal assembly. Use one or more bumper cushions (supplied) to level and cushion lavatory slab to pedestal
- Mark lavatory and pedestal screw locations through the mounting holes.
- Remove lavatory and pedestal from installed position. Drill pilot holes for lavatory and pedestal anchor screws or lag bolts. (We used anchor screws)
- Anchor screw installation: Install lavatory anchor screws leaving 1 7/8" threaded end exposed
- INSTALL FAUCET AND DRAIN ASSEMBLY (see below for directions)
- Return the fitted lavatory and pedestal to the installed position. Connect trap to drain assembly hand tight to check alignment. It may be necessary to cut off part of the tailpiece and/or pipe going into wall from elbow.
- Secure lavatory to wall with anchor screw, washer & nut
- Install pedestal screws.
Below are directions for the faucet we installed - follow manufacturer's directions for the faucet you are installing.
What You Need:
- Faucet
- Basin wrench and/or tongue & groove pliers/adjustable wrench
- Plumber's putty
- Supply lines
- Install spout through center hole, making sure the spout escutcheon and seal washer are properly seated.
- Assemble RUBBER WASHER, BRASS WASHER AND LOCKNUT onto SPOUT SHANK from under side of sink. Make sure SPOUT is centered in the sink hole, the slot in the BRASS WASHER is in back and the O-RING is seated at the end of SHANK.
- Tighten LOCKNUT of SPOUT firmly
- Remove EXCUTCHEONS with RUBBER RINGS and insert VALVE BODY through holes from under side of SINK. Thread of both VALVE SHANKS should extend at least 5/16" above SINK top. If necessary, adjust LOCKNUTS.
- Be sure the LABLE indicating the front of the fitting faces the front of the sink.
- Be sure SHANK and O-RING of SPOUT is pushed into TEE section of the VALVE BODY.
- Drop LIFT ROD through hole in BODY.
- For LEVER handles
- Turn VALVE into OFF position
