Beginning with Dave Matthews Band's first-ever public performance at the 1991 Charlottesville Earth Day Festival and continuing with the creation of their own foundation, Bama Works Fund, DMB has made contributing back to the community and the environment a top priority. The Bama Works Fund has grown over the years and has positively impacted charities both close to the band's home in Charlottesville, VA and around the world. In addition to supporting Farm Aid, Dave Matthews Band actively supports scores of other organizations, including The Nature Conservancy, Save Our Environment Coalition, and the National Council on Agricultural Life.
Dave Matthews Band, known for its musical innovation and dynamic performances, has sold over twenty-five million albums and is consistently ranked as the top touring act in the country.
During breaks in their hectic touring schedule, Dave recorded Some Devil, his solo debut. Recorded in Seattle, WA, Matthews drew from an eclectic array of musicians to form the band backing him on the album. Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio is featured on the album as is longtime accompanist Tim Reynolds. For the rhythm section, Matthews turned to bassist Tony Hall who has worked with such artists as Bob Dylan, The Neville Brothers and Willie Nelson, and drummer Brady Blade, Jr., who has worked with Emmylou Harris, Steve Earle and Chris Whitely, to name a few. More information about the album can be found on the band's website (www.davematthewsband.com).
This will be Dave's third solo performance at a Farm Aid concert, in addition to three previous appearances with Dave Matthews Band. Dave was welcomed to the Farm Aid Board of Directors in 2001 by founders Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp. Dave's appointment marked the first time since its inception in 1985 that Farm Aid added a new artist to its board of directors.
