My parent(s) wanted me to…
My parent(s) wanted me to be a doctor when I grew up. So, I went to college and studied Biochemistry. I volunteered at a hospital, and worked in cancer research, while taking another job on weekends to pay my tuition not covered by financial aid. I got my first F in my life, had a nervous breakdown, and graduated early with an art major. I was never anyone my parents wanted me to be. I was born a girl when they wanted a boy. I learned the guitar when they wanted me to learn how to play the violin or piano. I became an writer, an artist, when they wanted me to study medicine. I married a white guy when they wanted me to wed someone of our race. But they still love me the same, and they are proud of the person I surprised them with.
