My American story started when…
My American story started when my paternal grandfather made the difficult decision to start passing for white he was among the “top 10 % as W.E.B. DuBois (his Alpha Phi Alpha brother and associate) would refer to elite black men in higher education in the early 1900’s
Dr.Alonzo Bond Persley raised his children with my Irish grandmother to experience the best things in life and what most privileged white children enjoyed The rich black history and heritage was lost in our family until I started to research our genealogy in the 1990’s and soon learned I was related to an impressive line of highly Educated and historically celebrated black elites who were pioneering trailblazers of their generation my Grand Uncle Louis Persley worked directly with Booker T Washington and built most of Tuskegee’s original campus
