The tradition I carry on is…
The tradition I carry on is questioning authorities who try to entice us to war and other acts of violence. Writings of Henry David Thoreau inspired Leo Tolstoy, Mohandas Gandhi, Bayard Rustin, Martin Luther King to actively denounce war and threats of violence. Their campaigns show us the way forward. I'm also inspired by Jeanette Rankin's Congressional votes against entry into WW 1 & 2; and by John Lewis, Wally Nelson, and other Freedom Riders; by Dorothy Day, Ammon Hennacy, people who advocated nonviolence and lived it in every aspect of their lives. Today, Nonviolent Peaceforce and other organizations of unarmed protectors bravely intercede to stop war's atrocities. We are a stream of peacemakers. War will be abolished. Carry it on.
