At this point in my life disability does not equal disadvantage. Our bodies do not define our lives. What is in our hearts and minds conquers all. I believe when we accept our own differences, we are more open to being accepting of others. Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. I believe dreams come true. I never expected, after being paralyzed 20 years ago, I could have a deeper appreciation and fully-rich life experience. Because of my disability, I have developed an independent and courageous spirit. These traits led me to compete in the Paralympic Games. I don’t use the word confined in the same sentence as wheelchair. I may have differences in my abilities, but am still free to fly. At this point in my life, I believe anything is possible. Most of all, I'm proud to have become the ME, I was meant to be.
