I never expected that I would have to take care of the woman who was once an integral part of my life. My aunt, my mother’s eldest sister was diagnosed with dementia about 5 years ago, but now when we look back there were signs that we overlooked. She passed away two months ago from the disease, and it was one of the saddest days of my entire life. She was such a vibrant woman who loved to travel, loved clothes, loved to crotchet, and loved her family. She was the eldest of her siblings. Her and her siblings were close knit. And they raised me, my brother, and my cousin to live the same way. She was the glue that kept the family together. She was the voice of reasoning amongst the siblings. The disease, dementia, took her a long time ago and that hurt the most. She was loved and will be missed dearly!
