I stand for…
I stand for PEACE. As far as I know I am the only person ( not group) who sponsored a whole refugee family.
It was 1988 when a family of 9 came to live with me and my family in Babylon, NY. Two adults and 7 children. The local paper, The Beacon cover the story from my first pleas through their settlement. Over coming obstetrical within my own home and figuring out the maze of agencies who were part of the resettlement effort of the US government.
I only had the belief that if I did not fight the system these children would be placed into poverty to which they might not every rise above. It was my person belief that if I placed them into middle class they would learn to survive in the middle class. 32 years latter I may have been right. They all are homeowners and raising family in suburbs.
