My American dream was inspired by my Aunt Evelyn. I learned from her that a good education can open the mind as well as doors to opportunity and adventure. She wrote "a classroom can be as vast as the infinite reaches". Her life did not begin with the silver spoon metaphor. It would seem she was up against virtually every kind of roadblock. Her parents were immigrants who came through Ellis Island in the early part of the last century, speaking no English. Evelyn would become one of the youngest woman reporters for The Miami Herald, a Time magazine correspondent, a student archeologist and a college professor. She also explored the Caribbean in a sailboat and worked briefly in espionage, all in one short life. She did investigative reporting long before it was vogue. Her life remains an inspiration .
