At this point in my life…
At this point in my life I truly believe ageism is a thing. I had a fantastic job that I loved, then Covid hit. We were furloughed in April. I filed for unemployment for the 1st time in my life. I kept hearing people complain about the unemployed getting an extra $600, and how you shouldn’t pay people to sit home and not work, thing is, I made far more at work than I did on UI, even with the additional $600. As the months dragged on and we still didn’t have work to go back to, the stress was insane. Then the extra $600 ended. I got UI in NC, which gave me, roughly 1/3 of my normal pay. There are many of us that have lost everything we worked to have. I’m having problems getting a job due to, I honestly believe, my age. I’m 58, have fantastic work references, & much needed skill sets in distribution.
