The tradition I carry on is
my upbringing & family's heritage in the Gullah-Geechee culture. It is a 400+ year old culture that exists between North Carolina to Florida's islands, coastal and inland regions. Gullah-Geechee is a mix of the West African culture with the southern culture. Many traditions were passed down such as art, sweetgrass basket weaving, story-telling, Gullah-Geechee language, quilting, blacksmithing and more. Art was passed down to me and I use my art to education and preserve the Gullah-Geechee culture. I continue to do this in my gallery in Savannah, GA at the Savannah City Market. Furthermore, I participate in speaking engagements, Gullah-Geeche events, festivals and cultural presentations. You can connect with me on my website and social media at www.sabreesgallery.com
