My parent(s) wanted me to : Become a Nurse or a Teacher, that's what "nice colored girls did" back then, inaddition, my favorite aunt was a nurse. I was a " nice colored girl". I wanted to please my parents. I loved my aunt. I knew what I had to do. Initially, I attempted to become a nurse, but "it was not for me." I did not like the structure. I did not like wearing white uniforms. I did not like the lack of creativity. I did not want to become a nurse. I was knocked off balanced! But I self-examined, and learned I enjoyed creative activities; writing, listening to music, Jazz, reading, studying ancient history, eclectic styles, traveling, spontaneous adventures, and that was my Ah moment! I applied that knowledge and became a, creative, dedicated and outstanding educator.
