My American dream
is to be a poet and make a difference. I came to America as an adult with a luggage literally overpacked with poems, I remember at San Francisco Airport, thinking: I could be a poet here. But one thing I learned about poetry and America is that they are both not for the faint-hearted.
It took about two decades to be part of and build up a community. I’m currently the Poet Laureate of San Mateo County in California with the mandate to make poetry more accessible to people in their everyday lives. My latest project is an anthology of inaugural poems featuring over 100 young people ages 6 to 16 whose poems reflect a more equitable and more perfect union.
