You don’t know what it’s like to…
You don’t know what it’s like to be invited to chaperone a group of teens on a trip to the Washington DC to the African American Musuem of History and Culture. Last Feb during Winter Break I went to DC with a great bunch of students from upstate NY. They were very open and receptive to learning about African American history in the United States and sitting at the lunch counter the students in Greensboro NC had there sit in. Most of these students would only read about this in a textbook but they got to sit it first hand as well as a slave cabin. The photo of all of us standing on the steps the Capitol last year is the true picture I have for the future of America. The ugliness that took place recently could never overshadow the beauty that these students experienced on their trip to Washington DC last year.
