I never expected to care for a disabled dog, especially during the Covid pandemic. Two weeks after the Covid lockdown in LA, and three weeks after she received 4 different vaccines, my healthy pit bull mix Holly got sick. She woke up trembling in pain, with a complete paralysis of both her back legs. Scared and confused, my husband and I took her to an animal hospital in West LA, where she was admitted while we sat in our car in the parking lot (Covid restrictions were in place). After she came home, with a diagnosis of autoimmune spinal disease probably caused by the vaccines, we didn’t know what to do. She was only seven, and we loved her. So we dug in, and watched as she slowly improved and surprised herself at what she could do. Getting her a wheelchair opened her world. She became our hero.
