The tradition I carry on is teaching my child about her Mexican heritage. I gave my child tamales when she was 7 months old. It was a beautiful transference of our culture. Now that my child is 5 years old, I continue teaching her our traditions. On rainy days, I enjoy watching her make little balls of masa to make tortillas. Other days, I braid her long brown hair the way our abuelas had done. On evenings, when she won't go to sleep, I tell her stories about our gente. I tell her about the contributions of the Mexican community to this country. Through our traditions, my child will have a strong sense of self and her raíces will never be forgotten.
