I took a risk when I left my secure job, home, friends and family to work on board a cruise ship in Europe for five months as a Passenger Logistics Coordinator. There were so many unknowns...the company's first season to these destinations, how a crew of Italian men would react to being told what to do by an American woman, what I would do for work when my contract was over, and so many more. My brother and others asked the same question – those who didn’t
ask directly made their thoughts known by just how they looked at me.
“Do you know what you’re doing?” I didn’t know what was in
store ahead, but I’d never been so sure of anything. My
body tingled with anticipation, excitement and pure fear. I’d
ripped through the bonds of normalcy. I felt free, and I knew I was
doing the right thing.
