I took a risk when…
I took a risk whenafter 15 years of nursing I went back to college, obtained a BA in English and went on to law school. My plan was to become a risk manager for a hospital or maybe medical malpractice defense. I was well on my way: Suma Cum Laude in undergrad, Dean's list first year of law school. Only the big firms do med-mal and you have to be outstanding in your class to be considered, top 10 preferably. Then I was diagnosed with Hepatitis C, acquired either from a blood transfusion in the '80's or a dirty needle stick at work before we had universal precautions. I went from Dean's list to academic probation in one semester because the only treatment for the disease at the time was a kind of chemotherapy. At age 45 I graduated from law school. It didn't turn out as planned but that's OK
