My American story started when…
My American story started whenmy great grandfather Michael Patrick Lyden arrived in Youngstown, Ohio from Ireland, in 1923 to work in the steel mill. His wife Mary Coyne Lyden and my grandfather , John James Lyden joined them in 1925, leaving their young daughter Nellie in Ireland with Marys's mother , as they felt she was to young to make the long trip by boat. Nellie joined her family in Youngstown when she was a teenager. My grandfather, John became a citizen when he volunteered for the Air Force during World War 2. He was a flight engineer on Saipan in the South Pacific. John and his family helped establish many Irish community clubs to their new home, including The Mahoning Valley Gaelic Society, and the Burke School of Irish Dance. They
