Most days I feel…
Most days I feelpeople don’t
realize that medical students close ourselves off from friends and family on an
everyday basis to learn essentials of patient care. Some view this as selfish,
but we rationalize it as a selfLESS pursuit. Four walls enclose us
for hours while we try to marry responsibilities of a medical education with
those of COVID-19 social distancing. While new routines seem conducive to added
study time, gym closures and gathering restrictions deepen the isolation felt
by many. Study groups move to video calls and it feels like we are detached and
unable to find respite in things that reminded us of humankind. From one
medical student to another–in the midst of further isolation, remember to attend
to yourself and don’t forget who got you here today, pandemic or otherwise.
