I took a risk when during the 2008 Recession I grabbed an opportunity to live and work abroad in SE Asia. In late 2009 I traveled for 3 months to first get familiar with the SE region. During 2010, back home in Portland, OR, I proceeded to "pack up my life" and make a leap-of-faith into the unknown abyss of not knowing where exactly I would land or how long I would be "there." I took the year to reduce and dispose of my possessions, stored the few items I wanted to keep, and moved out of my home. January 2011, I boarded a flight to Thailand, arrived in Bangkok's traffic, immersed myself into the local culture and food, passed the CELTA certification course to teach English, and landed a job teaching business and conversational English at Chiang Mai University.
