My American story started when we arrived to NYC in April 1939 from Hamburg. My father had been arrested by the Gestapo for the crime of being born a Jew . He was taken to Sachenhausen concentration camp on a cold snowy nightthe morning after Kristallnight .In desperation my mother contacted his boss, Richard Moser, a righteous christian. My father was his most trusted employee. He wrote to the Gestapo notwithstanding the risk he was taking to protect a Jew, asking for his release . The work of my father brought foreign currency to Germany which was essential. After a few months my father was released. Moser remained his lifelong friend. We were now immigrants in a land which embraced us & we flourished rapidly. The family grew to over 100 souls defying the Nazi intent of our destruction.
