The Old Bridge in Mostar became one of the most famous casualties of the 1992-1995 war between Bosnian Muslims, Catholic Croats and Orthodox Serbs. On November 9, 1993, Croat artillery hit the pedestrian bridge in its weak spot, and the historic icon crumbled into the Neretva River. This photograph, taken in December 1993, shows the void where the bridge once stood as the symbol of national unity.
