Furahi teaches documentary filmmaking, broadcast, and animation to high school students. From the moment they walk into her class, she says, her students know they are journalists.  They are empowered to seek and communicate the truth, making informational movies on the subjects of their choice. The best movies are shared with the school and community though a Vimeo channel. “I teach my seniors technical self-sufficiency,” says Furahi. “They learn how to create their favorite movie special effect, and then must teach their classmates how to do the effect. Ultimately, they create an online digital portfolio.”

Fun fact: Before becoming a classroom teacher, Furahi was a named co-inventor on five pharmaceutical patents/patent applications.
