In Joe’s classroom, sharing is caring. He believes students learn best when they work together to find solutions. He has implemented “Scrum”—a framework that teaches students how to become "servant leaders" and to share the workload evenly. This year, that has also meant challenging himself to work more closely with his own peers to create a “collaborative classroom” with a special education co-teacher. It has also inspired him to explore creative learning activities. “Technology and music are at the center of my classroom,” Joe says. “From learning about animal cells by using Minecraft, to exploring the concept of poetry through stop motion animation, to traveling to the seven continents through rapping - the opportunities are endless.”
Fun Fact: Joe is a songwriter—he writes and produces educational songs that align with Virginia standards, which he shares for free on teacherpayteachers.com.
