Everyday Edisons selects its featured inventors through a casting call process of elimination. Expert judges in product development and patent law screen thousands of ideas from across the country, narrowing it down until only the best inventions remain.

Rather than rely on the drama and emotion of the casting call experience, however, the show’s real-life aspect comes into play as viewers enter the lives of ordinary Americans experiencing the product development process for the first time. Viewers also meet the expert team that is working around the clock to take each invention through its design, engineering, branding, commercialization and marketing phases.

"Everyone either has had an idea for a new product or knows someone who has invented something," said Michael Cable, executive producer and host of Everyday Edisons. "You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to have a great idea. This is a tremendous opportunity for everyday individuals to see their ideas become reality."

Some inventions selected from the casting calls are just sketched ideas; others arrive as detailed, patented designs. All categories of invention are considered, from word games, to convertible baby bags, to novel kitchen products and everything in between.

Season 1 follows the development of inventions chosen from casting calls in Tampa, Columbia, S.C., Nashville, Atlanta and Charlotte. Season 2, follows the development of inventions selected from casting calls in Indianapolis, Houston, Chicago, Washington, D.C. and San Diego. Season 3, already in the works, will follow the development of inventions selected from casting calls held in Atlanta; San Jose; Dallas; Chicago; Providence, RI; and online at Edison Nation.
