Scientists are finding microbial life in places they never expected — in boiling water, inside rocks, under ice, and even at the bottom of the ocean where it's dark, cold and the pressure is very high. These microbes are called extremophiles, and scientists are looking to them for clues as to what some alien life might be like.

2) Which creature has sticky tendrils for grabbing microbes that brush past them on the surface of the ice?
Ballworms are scavengers that use their tendrils to move. The tendrils are tipped with tiny grapples that tear off small chunks off dead animals to feed their central ball.
Sea-Snares attach themselves to the ice surface where they wave freely in the water. They use their tendrils to immobilize passing microbes, and then draw the food into their stalks for ingestion.
