Meet the Bakers: Mat

Mat grew up in Kent and after leaving college decided to become a hairdresser. It wasnt for him and after a stint of testing snowboards and working in a skateboarding shop, he decided to train to be a firefighter and join the force. After meeting his now wife at the age of 29, he married her two years ago and moved to London.

Mat started to bake when he became a fireman, finding the work pattern of 4 days on/4 days off meant that he had a lot more free time. He has now mastered not only simple cakes and biscuits but bread, pastries and pies. Preferring sweet over savory baking, Mat won’t be as adventurous with savory flavours.
