When it comes to breakfast, I am a pancake girl. As much as I love scrambled eggs and bacon, there’s just something so wonderful about a big stack of fluffy pancakes with maple syrup.

The chocolate chip pumpkin spice pancakes are a new seasonal favorite!

And guess what? They are so easy to make! They’d be perfect for a Thanksgiving morning breakfast or just a laid-back Saturday.

I’ve realized the secret to great, fluffy pancakes is not over-mixing the batter and cooking on a very hot skillet. Fleck some water on your skillet before dropping the batter. If the water sizzles, the skillet is ready for use. Cooking on a skillet that’s not hot enough results in uneven cooking.

Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Spice Pancakes

Try these chocolate chip pumpkin spice pancakes recipe for a seasonal favorite perfect for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Food blogger Jenna Weber shares her pancake cooking tips in a full post on the Fresh Tastes blog.



  • ½ cup + 2 tbsp all purpose flour
  • ¾ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¾ tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • ½ tsp ground ginger
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp butter, melted
  • ½ cup canned pumpkin puree
  • ½ cup dark chocolate chips
  • warm maple syrup for serving
  • butter for serving


  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and ground ginger.
  2. In another (smaller) bowl, beat the milk, egg, melted butter and pumpkin together. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and fold in the chocolate chips. Do not over-mix here!
  3. Let the batter rest for five minutes. While the batter rests, heat a large skillet over medium high heat on the stove. Add a little butter to the skillet and then cook pancakes on skillet for about four minutes per side until golden brown. Serve with warm maple syrup.

Yield: 2-3 servings
