Do you remember the first time you took your first bite of pumpkin pie? I do. I was five years old, and I vividly recall the Thanksgiving Day when I walked through the door to my aunt and uncles small kitchen. My eyes were immediately drawn to a card table filled with several pumpkin pies and other desserts -it was such a beautiful sight. When I walked up to the table I visually assessed the aesthetic condition and location of each pie, making a mental note on which one I hoped to get a piece of. I was so worried I would be served dessert from one of the burned pumpkin pies I made sure to be one of the first kids in line when it was time for the last course. Fortunately my uncle understood my concern and graciously asked me which pie I would like to be served from. He cut a big piece for me and finished it off with a dollop of whipped cream from a can. Even though it was of the frozen variety you bake at home, I fell in love with pumpkin pie that day. For the record, I still love those boxed frozen pies.
These days the dessert table at our Thanksgiving dinner is an impressive spread of various pies, cakes, crisps, and cookies. My husband loves his grandmothers pecan pie and my kids love traditional pumpkin pie. As for me I am easy to please because I love any and all desserts.
Two weeks ago I asked Savory Sweet Life readers on Facebook what desserts they were looking most forward to eating on Thanksgiving Day. Based on the responses, Ive compiled a virtual Thanksgiving dessert table. It’s a real feast for the eyes from around the web.
If you’re searching for the perfect dessert to make for Thanksgiving, here’s a baker’s dozen worth considering.
