Southeast Region: Metlakatla The Elder anchored at Metlakatla, to this day Alaska's only official Indian Reservation. Zoologist William Ritter found three new species of enchytraeids, small worms common in the high latitudes. He named one Lumbricillus merriami, in honor of Dr. Merriam.
