Community Guidelines

SOCIAL MEDIA GUIDELINES

The social media mission for Independent Lens is to create a respectful and civil space for users to engage in a discourse relevant to the topics of documentaries we show on PBS. We are committed to enforcing these guidelines on any platform in which moderation is possible.

  • We reserve to right to reject/remove comments, posts, or messages including, but not limited to:
    • Language containing obscenity, hate speech, personal attacks, libel, slander defamation, or harassment.
    • Are blatantly sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, or otherwise insensitive towards individuals or groups on the basis of gender, gender identity, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, culture, age, disability, religion, culture, or class.
    • Are not relevant to the topic of the post or social media page, misleading, contains “trolling” or other disruptive content, or contains clear misinformation or disinformation.
    • Doxxing of personal or sensitive information of individuals, including phone number, address, etc.
    • Any copyrighted material (including a quote, link, etc.) that does not have explicit permission or attribution to the original author or owner.
    • Spam, advertising, or promotional information.
  • Please watch, listen, or read the full post before commenting or leaving a message.
  • By posting on our social media pages, you agree to the terms and conditions set by each social media platform.
  • Each social media platform has its own criteria for hiding or blocking comments or posts beyond our control—for more information refer to their community guidelines.
  • Individuals who repeatedly violate our community guidelines may be blocked from our social media platforms.
  • By posting on our social media channels or tagging us, you give your consent for the post, including your displayed name, image, and profile information, to be used in our promotional materials, articles, and more.
