Solar Mamas is an inspiring and moving film about Rafea, a beautiful and strong-willed Jordanian mother of four, who is offered a once-in-a-lifetime chance to attend India’s Barefoot College, where women from rural areas around the world receive training through a unique solar engineering program that teaches women how to make their communities self-reliant and sustainable.
In association with Why Poverty? and Women and Girls Lead, the film premiered this season on Independent Lens and is currently screening nationwide through Community Cinema, a groundbreaking public education and civic engagement initiative featuring free monthly screenings of Independent Lens films in more than 95 cities.
