The Times
The 35th Democratic National Convention in Chicago remains a linchpin event in a tumultuous year of war, political assassinations, protest and riots. Although the actual convention only lasted for a few, short, August days, the political fracturing and violent clashes between anti-war demonstrators and police forces—broadcast to a stunned national television audience and resulting in the Chicago Conspiracy Trial—had long-term consequences, illustrating an increasing disillusionment with the U.S. government, its leaders and the authorities.
Due to the ephemeral nature of the internet, the timeline has been retired.
