Rose Hall in New York City, an event attended by more than 1,000 television and news media industry executives, news and documentary producers and journalists. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Independent Lens<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was pleased to learn that two of our films, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/independentlens\/films\/tower\/\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TOWER<\/span><\/i><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/independentlens\/films\/forever-pure\/\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Forever Pure<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, were bestowed with an Emmy. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All told, <em>Independent Lens<\/em> received 8 nominations, including for\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/independentlens\/films\/birth-of-a-movement\/\">Birth of a Movement<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/independentlens\/films\/national-bird\/\">National Bird<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/independentlens\/films\/seed-the-untold-story\/\">SEED: The Untold Story<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/independentlens\/films\/bad-kids\/\">The Bad Kids<\/a>, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/independentlens\/films\/witness\/\">The Witness.<\/a><\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0TOWER received two nominations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe\u2019re proud to have presented this extraordinary group of documentaries on <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Independent Lens<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u201d said Lois Vossen, series Executive Producer. \u201cThese filmmakers spent years establishing trust with the people represented to tell multilayered, authentic stories and it&#8217;s gratifying to see their work recognized with the industry\u2019s highest award for news and documentary programs.\u201d<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TOWER<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, directed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/independentlens\/blog\/keith-maitland-goes-back-to-1966-to-tell-story-of-victims-and-heroes-of-texas-shooting\/\">Keith Maitland<\/a>, was honored for <strong>Best Historical Documentary<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">View the award and Maitland&#8217;s acceptance speech here:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">VIDEO: The <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Emmy?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Emmy<\/a> for Outstanding Historical Documentary goes to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/IndependentLens?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@IndependentLens<\/a> &quot;TOWER.&quot;
