GOLD STAR FAMILY STORY

THROUGH THE EYES OF GOLD STAR WIFE KRISTA SIMPSON ANDERSON

SSG Michael Simpson was a dedicated U.S. Army Green Beret, a proud husband, and a loving father of two young boys. In April 2013, while serving in Afghanistan, he was critically injured by an improvised explosive device and later died from his wounds. His loss was life-changing for his wife Krista, their family, and the brotherhood of Green Berets that served beside him.

In the midst of her grief, Krista was surrounded by support from the military community and aided by many organizations with the mission to support military spouses like herself. Inspired by Michael’s selfless service and the compassion she received, Krista has made it her mission to support other military families, honoring Michael’s legacy by giving back to those who continue to serve. More about SSG Michael H. Simpson’s service can be found on his Hero Card.

“I hope Mike would be proud of the work that we do to help others.”

THE LEGACY OF MILITARY FAMILIES

U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Michael H. Simpson proudly carried on the “family business” of military service, a legacy deeply rooted in his family’s example. Inspired by his father and brothers, retired Lieutenant Colonel Michael Simpson, a decorated Green Beret, and David and Isaac (also Green Berets), who all chose to serve, answering the call to defend our nation. Their sister Abigail continues this legacy of service, working in support of wounded warrior healthcare, demonstrating that commitment to country can take many forms, all grounded in compassion, sacrifice, and a deep sense of duty.
