Mary McCormack
Mary McCormack is one of today’s boldest and most versatile actresses, continually challenging herself with roles that defy Hollywood standards and bring to light the complex lives of ordinary women. As noted by the Los Angeles Times, “McCormack has a kind of 20th-century sass, a lively impertinence you find in classic Hollywood comedians like Barbara Stanwyck, Irene Dunne, and Rosalind Russell.”
Currently airing, McCormack appears in Season 2 of The Pitt on HBO Max as Dr. Linda Conley. She also recently starred in both seasons of the hit Starz series Heels, for which she received a Critics Choice Award nomination for Best Lead Actress. She also recently appeared in Paramount’s horror feature Vicious opposite Dakota Fanning.
McCormack’s career spans film, television, and stage, with roles ranging from slapstick comedy to intense drama. She earned a Tony Award nomination for her performance in the Broadway production of Boeing Boeing opposite Mark Rylance. She is widely recognized for her four-season run as a series regular on The West Wing (earning two Screen Actors Guild Award nominations), as well as for her leading role in USA Network’s critically acclaimed In Plain Sight, and her performance opposite Howard Stern in Private Parts.
In September 2024, McCormack became a New York Times bestselling author with the release of What’s Next: A Backstage Pass to The West Wing, co-written with her former West Wing co-star Melissa Fitzgerald. Published by Random House, the book quickly rose to No. 3 on the nonfiction bestseller list.
Her extensive film credits include Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star, K-PAX, Full Frontal, High Heels and Low Lifes, Mystery, Alaska, The Broken Hearts Club, Gun Shy, True Crime, Deep Impact, Right at Your Door, 1408, For Your Consideration, and Miracle on 34th Street, among others.
On stage, McCormack has delivered memorable performances including Sally Bowles in the Roundabout Theatre Company’s Broadway production of Cabaret opposite Alan Cumming, directed by Sam Mendes and Rob Marshall. Additional theater credits include Neil LaBute’s Bash in London, My Marriage to Ernest Borgnine, and Jon Robin Baitz’s A Fair Country.
Her television work is equally expansive, with starring roles in ABC’s The Kids Are Alright, AMC’s Loaded, and NBC’s Welcome to the Family. She has also appeared in notable recurring and guest roles on The Newsroom, Scandal, When We Rise, House of Lies, Will & Grace, The L Word: Generation Q, and Hulu’s Blumhouse anthology Treehouse. Earlier in her career, she had roles on ER, HBO’s K Street, and Murder One.
