News Wrap: Bannon indicted, New FDA head nominated, almost 30 million get COVID booster

Summary

In our news wrap Friday, longtime Trump adviser Steve Bannon has been indicted on two counts of contempt of Congress after he defied a subpoena from the congressional committee investigating the Capitol insurrection. President Joe Biden nominated Dr. Robert Kaliff to head the Food and Drug Administration. The White House estimates more than 27 million Americans have received a COVID booster shot. Key terms: Indictment : A formal criminal charge. Note that an indictment is not a conviction — those indicted for crimes are still innocent until proven guilty in court or until they plead guilty to the charges brought by the indictment. Sanctions: Financial restrictions or penalties imposed by countries on other nations or on individuals. Sanctions can limit economic activity, trade and access to money.
