Presidential candidates fight for lead in Wisconsin

DOWNLOAD VIDEO
Essential question
Why do some candidates resort to personal attacks on their opponents as political campaigns wear on?
The five remaining presidential primary candidates turned their attention to Wisconsin this week, where a crucial primary will take place next Tuesday. Polls in the state show a close race between Republicans Donald Trump, Ohio Gov. John Kasich and Sen. Ted Cruz. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, himself a former Republican presidential candidate, announced his sought-after endorsement for Cruz on Tuesday, saying the Texas senator had the best chance of beating Hillary Clinton in the November election. Trump and Cruz have traded a nearly continuous stream of criticism in recent weeks. Cruz wasted little time responding to the announcement that Trump's campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, had been charged with assaulting a reporter after a press conference in Florida earlier in the month. "I think it really is an unfortunate development, but I do think it helps clarify to voters what the Trump campaign is all about," Cruz said. Trump's campaign maintains that Lewandowski did nothing wrong and said they expect him to be fully exonerated. Democrats Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also have a close race in Wisconsin as they both make their rounds throughout the state.
