Note: Stop video at 2:42 for a shorter segment.- Coinciding with International Women's Day on Wednesday, thousands stayed away from work and took to the streets to demonstrate the important economic contributions women make as part of the worldwide "Day Without Women" strike.
- As strikes and rallies unfolded across the globe in the name of equality, at least 13 protesters were arrested in New York City, including some of the organizers of the Women's March on Washington.
- Leading women in Congress appeared outside the United States Capitol dressed in red, the color associated with the labor movement.
- Near the White House, women rallied to protest the “ global gag rule ” which bans federal funding for overseas organizations that discuss abortion as a family planning option.
- Another crowd rallied at the Department of Labor in Washington D.C., calling for pay equity at a time when American women earn 80 cents for every dollar a man makes.
